Create VPN Connection for Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003

Make sure that you have followed the pre-setup instructions found here before continuing to create a VPN connection for Outlook.

Create a VPN Connection in Windows 2000 & XP:

  1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
  2. Double-click on "New Connection Wizard"
  3. If you see a "Welcome" window, hit "Next"
  4. On the "Network Connection Type" window, select "Connect to the network at my workplace" and click on "Next:

  5. On the "Network Connection" window, select "Virtual Private Network connection" and click on "Next":

  6. On the "Connection Name" window, type in "Naples-Digital-Services VPN" and click on "Next":

  7. On the "Public Network" window, select "Do not dial the initial connection" and click on "Next". NOTE: You may not be presented with this window if you do not have any dial-up connections defined already. Go to the next step if you do not see this window.

  8. On the "VPN Server Selection" window, type in "VPN.Naples-Digital-Services.COM" and click on "Next".

  9. On the "Completing the New Connection Wizard" window, check "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" and click on "Finish". NOTE: You must follow steps 10-15 below, otherwise you will not be able to browse the Internet while connected to the VPN.

  10. Minimize all your open windows (shortcut: press the "Windows" key and "D" at the same time) to see your entire desktop. Right click on the icon for "Naples-Digital-Services VPN" and click on "Properties".
  11. Click on the "Networking" Tab. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to highlight it and click on "Properties":

  12. On the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" window, click on "Advanced".

  13. On the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" window, under the "General" tab, uncheck the box for "Use default gateway on remote network".

  14. Click on "OK", then "OK" again.
  15. You are now ready to connect. Go back to your desktop and double-click on "Naples-Digital-Services VPN". On the "Connect to Naples-Digital-Services VPN" window, it will ask for:
User name: This is the same username as in your original setup e-mail - look under the "To Setup Microsoft Outlook for Exchange" section. This looks like: company.user
    Password: your password
Domain: This is also found in your original setup e-mail - look under the "To Setup Microsoft Outlook for Exchange" section. Typically, it is MAIL
  16. Click here to return to this page to continue with step 3.
