Think you might have a virus or spyware on your PC? Here are a couple of recommended third-party free tools to check. NOTE: the software listed below are merely a recommendation and have not been tested throughly by us for compatibility, side-effects, or other issues. USE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
- Virus: use the Trend Micro free online virus scanner:
- Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
- If you get a security warning, click on Yes
- In the list of drives, check off all your hard drives, especially C:
- Check "Auto Clean" on the right side
- Click on "SCAN"
- If any viruses are found, make a note of them
- Reboot your PC
- Run this scan again to ensure that all viruses have been removed
- Spyware: it's best to use multiple scanners:
